This area of the north-east is associated with heavy industry; the transience of which leaving defining landmarks as it rhythmically thrives, declines, adapts and rebuilds itself yet again. In my High Horizon semi-abstract landscape paintings, my intention is to document the visible impact that Teesside’s industrial past has had on the local landscape. I aim to convey a sense of the dirty, gritty, prettiness of its renowned industrial legacy and to promote positive dialogue which commemorates, in William Gladstone’s words, “this remarkable place… an infant Hercules”
